The [2025 edition of the Calgary Japanese Festival Omatsuri] is coming this summer! Once again, the event is spread across two days at Max Bell Centre, but this year it's happening in July.

The Calgary Go Club will be there to teach beginners the rules and help them play their first few games. This is always a fun event, and it's great spreading knowledge of the best game in the world!

Vincent will not be able to attend the meeting on December 29, 2024. He normally brings the equipment for us to all play with, so that day all players are encouraged to bring their own gear. As long as at least half of us bring a set, we'll be good to play.

I want to thank everyone who participated in the tournament this year. Thanks to you we had a record turnout of 28 players this year ranging in strength from 20 kyu to 6 dan.

This year's winners were Yimeng Lui 8k in the D division, Clayton Tiro-Burns 2k in the C division, Jim Zhou 2d in the B division and Martin Mueller 6d in the A division.

A big shout out as always to Brentwood Co-Op for allowing us to use their space free of charge.

Here's hoping next year's tournament is even better!

The 2024 Calgary Go Tournament is upon us! We will be hosting the tournament on the weekend of May 4-5. Registration details are below, but the deadline for registration is April 30, 2024. Please register as early as you can to make planning easier.

There will be no regular club meeting May 5, as we'll be busy with the tournament.

The tournament format will have 5 rounds, with the exact format and divisions to be finalized by the day of the tournament. We will use AGA rules, with 45 minutes main time per side, 25 stones in 10 minutes Canadian byo-yomi.

Calling all volunteers in the area of Panorama Hills!

The Panorama Hills Residents Association is interested in having some Go teaching sessions over the summer, mainly aimed at seniors in that community. The intent is to have some recurring sessions of teaching and games, and perhaps an informal tournament at the end of the season.

Exact location, times and dates are still to be determined, and will depend on the availability of volunteers to run the classes. Please send an email to me (evetsso at gmail.com) if you're interested! We can work out how to distribute equipment to you.

We're back and playing again for 2024! If you made a New Year's Resolution to play more Go this year, come on by and we'll help you out!

The Calgary Go Club will not be meeting on December 24 and December 31 this year.

Summer brings with it the annual Calgary Japanese Festival "Omatsuri"! The Calgary Go Club will be running some Go tables, teaching beginners how to play the game.
