2026 Spring Tournament May 10

The 2026 Calgary Spring Go Tournament is here. It runs all day on May 10th.

Location:	Calgary Co-op Brentwood 4122 Brentwood Rd NW View Map
Date and Time:	Sunday May 10 (9:00 AM to about 6:30 PM)
Registration:	Email Vincent at studentofsmith@gmail.com with your name and rank (if known)
Entry fee:	NONE! Co-op does not charge us for use of the community room, so we have negligible costs to run the tournament. So come have some fun and play some games!
Prizes:	Fame and glory!

The tournament will have a round-robin format with 6 players per division (five rounds). Whoever has the most wins in a division will be the winner of that division. In the event of a tie the winner of the game between the players who are tied will be the winner.

The games will use AGA rules unless both players agree to use a different ruleset. 30 minutes main time with 5x30 seconds overtime.

2:00 PM	Third Round

Vincent will not be able to attend the meeting on December 28, 2025. He normally brings the equipment for us to all play with, but as long as half of us bring gear we can still play some games.

2025 Fall Tournament results

Thank you to everyone who came out to participate in our first Fall Tournament. With a great turnout of 20 players there is clearly a demand so our intention is to make this an annual event just like our Spring Tournament.

The winners were Axyl Schulz in the C division, Micheal Hsu in the B division and Robert Hu in the A division.

Our usual shout out to Brentwood Co-Op for allowing us to use their community room free of charge.

Fire at Central Library, Sept 14 meeting unaffected

There's been a fire at the Central Library.

However, the fire has been contained and the Calgary Library website reports that the Central Library will reopen as usual on Sunday. So the September 14 meeting is unaffected.

2025 Fall Tournament October 5, no club meeting

A year is a long time between tournaments, so the Calgary Go Club is hosting a Fall tournament for 2025. It will take place on October 5th.

Note that because of the tournament there will be no club meeting on October 5th.

2025 Tournament Results

Thanks to everyone who came out to make this year's Spring Tournament a rousing success! With a solid turnout of 26 players we had some fierce competition, particularly in the "B" division.

This year's winners were Xavier Dunn in the D division, Jim Zhou in the C division, Clayten Skibinsky in the B division and Xiaofei Deng in the A division.

I would again like to thank Brentwood Co-Op for allowing us to use their community room free of charge.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the next tournament!

Omatsuri 2025 - July 18 + 19

The 2025 edition of the Calgary Japanese Festival Omatsuri is coming this summer! Once again, the event is spread across two days at Max Bell Centre, but this year it's happening in July.

The Calgary Go Club will be there to teach beginners the rules and help them play their first few games. This is always a fun event, and it's great spreading knowledge of the best game in the world!

All Calgary Public Library locations closed (UPDATED!)

All Calgary Public Library locations including the Central Library are closed due to a cybersecurity breach. Source 1, Source 2

The Go Club cannot meet until the library opens again. Please check the CPL website for updates.

UPDATE - Locations will reopen Wednesday, so we can resume Go Club activity on October 20th.
